Marlene Stowe 18K Yellow and White Gold 1/3 Carat Diamond Earrings Estate BEST:
I bought these beautiful earrings in an upscale estate sale in Boston in the 1970s. I confirmed with Marlene Stowe's son that she made these earrings. The body is 18K yellow gold with contrasting smooth and textured swirls on the surface. It's a nice warm color of gold. There is an area of 18K white gold in which clean white diamonds are pave´ set individually. The earrings are elegant, visible, and always get compliments. They look like Florentine work. Total diamond weight is a little over 1/3 carat for the pair. They are VS to SI quality. They have sturdy omega backs that click twice into a closed position and they are made for pierced ears, though the posts can be removed and the Omega backs can serve as clip-ons. So the earrings can be used as pierced or clip-ons.
They are about 1-1/8" long, about 3/4" wide and weigh about 25 grams for the pair. They are each stamped 750 for 18K and have tested as 18K and they are stamped M. Stowe, for Marlene Stowe. Marlene Stowe grew up in France, studied at the Sorbonne and started her design career on the French Riviera. A dress designer both in Paris and New York, she moved on to design jewelry. These must have been an early creation of hers, since I've had them for 20 or 30 years and bought them as estate pieces.
They have a lot of movement in their design, and considerable dimensionality. Because of the sparkle of the diamonds and the variegated textures and movement of the design, and their strong dimensionality, they bring a lot of attention to the ears. They're elegant, with the swirls, and also remind me of the Ram's Head designs popularized by David Webb, but a step above that, more sophisticated. With the 750 stamp, too, they would have been made in Europe. They have good solid construction and weight but because of the Omega backs the weight is well balanced on the ears and not too heavy, so they are comfortable.
They have a classic, timeless, look, and are lovely. Given the price of gold, these are even more timeless than ever; investments, too. I can't think of a more stunning present and if you buy them as a present.

Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target.
