Original Model 1905/06 Experimental Saber. On June 4, 1905 President Theodore Roosevelt wrote a letter to Secretary of War expressing dissatisfaction with current saber and to find one that would better serve the cavalry.
This is number 129 of 157 sabers produced at Springfield Armory. This is the Officer's Model with the scabbard covered in pig skin. The enlisted scabbard was covered in collar leather.
Blade is bright - 29-1/2" long with a couple of small nicks in the blade and some very light pitting at tip of blade (See Photos).
The sharkskin grip shows some wear (See Photos). The one ring is missing some leather covering (See Photos). The pig skin scabbard has Inspector mark C.W.P. and shows some light wear. No rips, tears or loose stitching. VERY RARE.
