It is an Original Acrylic on paper depicting a woven basket and decorated pottery with dried maize, wheat and cat o\'nine tails in the basket and pot, set against a starry night sky. Beautifully detailed, rich, warm color palette, Realist in style. Piece dates from the early 1980\'s.3/4\" Wide Flat Dark Brown wood moulding, double mats and glass are included complementary in this sale.Image opening measures 15 1/2 X 19 1/2 and is in Very Good to Excellent condition.Outside measure of the frame is 22 3/4 X 27 3/4 and is in Good to Very Good condition.Please carefully examine all images for condition.Apologies for glare or reflection in images due to photographing under glass.*Michael Chiago (b. 1946)He was born in the Kohatk Village on the Tohono O’odham reservation. His tribal lineage is Tohono O’odham, Pima-Maricopa. The Tohono O’odham reservation is roughly the size of Connecticut with a population of about 27,000.He is one of very few Southern Arizona Indian painters to achieve national recognition. His background includes a stint as an Indian fancy dancer that included performing at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, barber school, and study in commercial art at Maricopa Community College.Hehas quite a list of awards and honors to his credit. He was commissioned to paint murals for the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport Terminal, Sacaton (AZ) Memorial Hospital, public schools throughout Arizona, Heard Museum, and for the poster for the inauguration of the Arizona Governor in 1991. He illustrated books for Ruth Underhill and Tom Bahti.Michael is a veteran of the U.S. Marines whose tour of duty included Vietnam. He began his painting career in the early 70’s and is self-taught, although he studied commercial art at MaricopaCommunity College.He is a commercial artist, dancer and full-time painter since 1970.
