Large Near 1st Stage Kentucky Clovis of Dover. Insight COA:
$2000.00
This is a large near first-stage Clovis made of Dover chert found along the Licking River in Northeastern Kentucky. The salt licks attracted much fauna to this area.
It was very well-crafted with Random percussion flaking and Very nice secondary edgework as can be appreciation the pictures. It has exceptionally long flutes compared to most Clovis points of the size, particularly on one side.
It measures 5”-7/16” by 1-7/8”, and is relatively thin 3/8”.
It has a very smooth feel and obviously Dover is a high quality relatively less-porous chert.
I have damaged/broken more points then I would like to admit, and I dropped a pair of pliers on this point causing a Small chip at the lower lateral base. I included several close ups of this area of damage. It can clearly be seen to be fresh. However luckily due to the nature of the impact it broke away principally the patina layer than actually any chunk of the point. (To make the best out of a bad situation at least this demonstrates the point to be authentic, as one can clearly differentiate the patina compared with the native stone when does even more appreciable on microscopy).
I have been selling my collection off and on on for a little over two years. As I have never found the Clovis point I did correct the number of large near first aid your first day at Clovis points and had at one time about eight of these. The two large Clovis point site currently have listed are the last of these.
I have been an avid hunter and collector of artifacts for decades. I also personally evaluate all my points with my stereo microscope regardless of any COA and have a database thousands of points. I am also a flintknapper And I have studied points extensively. I am aware of all the techniques artifakers use to disguise modern points as authentic. Frequently there is more than one person involved in the manufacture And artificial aging of this unfortunately prolific practice. I can make a crowbar supportive very easily and I have made many and applied many of these artificial aging techniques to understand them on a higher level.
These near first stage points are very rare. The general consensus is that they were hafted On my very long handles to butcher fauna. Subsequently they were really worked and a smaller point to be used as the projectiles or not I was, so points such as these were somehow lost or had to be discarded rapidly. It took me a long time to acquire this collection, and as is usually the case When selling anything one purchases,I have lost a fair amount of money selling my collection.
Of course there are many factors when determining the value of a Clovis point, however the size is quite important. Points over 5 inches are quite valuable and there is an exponential increase in lengths above that.
Principally I collect points from the Midwest but aside from that I have a particular interest 10 points from Kentucky and Tennessee and have had five Cumberland reply, number of Clovis points, and other points from those areas.
I provide a 30 day moneyback guarantee and a lifetime moneyback guarantee of authenticity. If the point is returning noon however the buyer is responsible for shipping costs
If you are interested in this point and have any questions or would like to see any additional images are microscopic images please let me know.
I created this listing earlier and maybe change it to an sale style listing tonight.
Thank you very much,
