Indian Princess Cigar Store Figure by Samuel Anderson Robb c.1890Robb was a Scottish born shipwright / carver who emigrated to New York in the latter half of the 19th century. His cigar store figures are are recognized and prized by collectors.
The carved wooden Indian Princess is decorated with colored paint and touches of gilt. She depicts a Native American woman with long black hair wearing a feathered headdress. She holds a rose, which the carver began to add to his carvings after the death of his first wife, Emma Jane Pelhma, who died in 1878.
Dimensions at the base measure 26" wide x 27.5" deep x 23" high. The top of the base measures 15.5" x 17".
The Indian Princess measures 57" high. The overall height is 80".
The figure shows a few minor scuff marks and cracks in the wood that come naturally with a piece of this age.
