Huge First Stage Clovis From Tennessee Insight COA Dover Chert:
This Is a rare first stage Clovis. It measures 6-5/8 by 1-15/16”. It was found and Stewart County Tennessee. There is no significant agent or modern damage. Towards the base on one side is a slight indentation. I had collected a large amount of first stage Clovis point since I had never found a Clovis point, and there is extremely common for these large first stage Clovis points to have a slight notch at this location, however this one is less pronounced than many I have had.
Discussing this with multiple experts the consensus was that these were used as aids in the half doing two rather large wooden shafts her spears and they were used to butcher final. Very often one side of the tip has a small fracture on these points from hitting bone but this one does not.
I took images with different lighting. It has a very smooth feel and weathered appearance. It fall somewhere between the lighter and darker varieties of Dover.
Most of the large stage Clovis points I have had were between 5 1/2 and slightly under 7 inches, however I have Seen several of these up to 9 inches from archaeological excavation’s.
The majority of the ones I had in the past were from Arkansas and southern Missouri particularly along the Black River.
For some reason such points were suddenly discarded or lost, otherwise usually they would be worked down overtime and end up as projectile points or knives.
I am quite familiar with IR/Raman spectroscopy, Which are actually two different but complementary and similar techniques. I am aware these are not infallible. I also know that nothing is infallible. However I have been collecting, hunting, and studying artifacts my stereo microscope for many years. I am also a flintknapper. I have seen many techniques to prematurely aged points and have performed They use on many of the points that I have made, obviously not to sell but to see the outcome. I am very comfortable evaluating a point myself and only get a COA on points that I am selling, or points that I purchased that had a COA. I have found around 400 points myself, (although I have still not found a Clovis), and of these points probably around 10 were extremely nice, and perhaps 20 were very nice.
I guarantee this point to be authentic. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. If you would like to see additional pictures are microscopic images please contact me. I provide 30 day moneyback guarantee, however the buyer is responsible for the cost of shipping for return. Please feel free to make offers.
Thank you very much,
