Amazing autographs!!! This is a letter written by Eunice White Beecher, a famous author in her own right, presenting two clipped autographs to someone who apparently requested them. The first, and most exciting is from abolitionist and author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Harriet Beecher Stowe. The autograph is obviously clipped from a letter to her brother and is signed “your affectionate sister, HB Stowe. Eunice sent this letter less than a month after Harriet Beecher Stowe’s death in July, 1896.
The second autograph is from her late husband, famous social reformer and abolitionist, Henry Ward Beecher. Of this autograph she writes, “after looking over a large bundle of letters for a long time I have at least found one, and I think it must be the last I shall be able to find... not the best specimen of his writing but a style he sometimes used half in sport when writing to me.”
Amazing piece in great condition for the age!!! Also included is a fascinating cover with multiple cancels and a hand written note “most valuable”.
