A fascinatingand very unusual scrapbook filled with Historical Articles, Obituaries,Memorial Cards, Eulogy Poems, Weddings announcements, a Suicide, etc, etc, etc.
The scrapbookbegins a 4 stanza broadside poem “Hymn Written For The Centennial Anniversaryof the Incorporation Of The Town Of Hancock, N. H.” by Walter Gates,the hymn is followed by newspaper article of 7 pages in length, with 3 columnsof text on each page, titled Hancock Centennial Celebrated Wednesday,September 17th, 1879. The article includes a lengthy poemtitled Centennial Poem, by Love M. Whitcome Willis who anaccomplished poet and editor of the Spiritualist magazine Banner of Light.
Thereare approximately 15 black bordered memorial cards though only a few have thename of a town on it, Alstead and Marlow, N. H. There is a wide range of ages onthe memorial cards of the deceased.
Thereis a 1-page manuscript eulogy poem titled, Lines Written on the Death ofCharles P. Haywood, Who Died July 14, 1847. Age 11 years.
Thisscrapbook is absolutely filled, there are too numerous to count obituaries, weddingannouncements, poems, births from Hancock, Alstead and surrounding towns, etc.,etc. One page has 3 reports of suicides on it.
The scrapbookmeasures 10 x 12 inches, approximately 75 pages, decorated front cover, lackingrear cover, light age tanning throughout, odor free.
