Early 1900s Photo Merkel Gargoyle Mobil Polarine Firestone Car Ford Middletown O:
This is a early 1900's photograph (original) of the E.W. Leight & Sons gas station in Middletown Ohio. I purchased years ago for the Flying Merkel Motorcycle in the lower left corner. But studying it closely using a magnifier there is a lot of things going on here. There are vintage signage for Firestone tires, a Ford Plugs advertising sign on the door post, Gargoyle (Mobil) advertising and oil can stack, Polarine Oil cans in the front center porch, vintage gas pumps (can't read names on tops). There is a vintage automobile in the lower right corner. Not sure of the make but there appears to be a name on the hubs. Can't make it out due grain of photo. Taken by the Sherman Studio on South Main Street in Middletown O. (Ohio). I checked out E W Leight on line and he did open two stations in early 1900s in Middletown so this must be one of the stations.
Condition is used and good. Corners bumped, creased and wrinkled. Edge wear. Some spots, stains and foxing on image. Photo is 7 1/2" by 9 3/4" and original hard cardboard backer with decorative border around photo is 11 1/2" by 13 1/2". Board is slightly warped from age.
Overall nice and interesting display piece for oil, motorcycle, car, gas station memorbilia collector.
