The House Harriet Beecher Stowe and her siblings were born in and grew up in.- This is the most important Dismantled American House that is available for re construction. Originally built by The famous Revolutionary War Captain Promoted to General, Elijah Wadsworth in 1774 and sold to Reverend Lyman Beecher in 1810 There on North Street in Litchfield CT. Lyman Beecher\'s entire family lived there in the early nineteenth century. Harriet Beecher Stowe described the home she and her sibling\'s were born in and grew up in the 1878 book Poqanuc People. The house was moved a quarter mile farther north and across the street whole around 1870 and was used as a sanitarium. The early 20th century it served as a dorm for students at the now Forman school. There in 1927 thru 1929 Folk singer Pete Seeger lived in a upstairs bedroom in this house. Pete Seeger wrote a letter and visited this house during the take down. This house is Very solid well built White oak Timber frame Home. Wadsworth was well known for building Good homes in the 18,Th Century. Original A Rare type center hall hip roof timber frame House 32\'x30\'. In 1814 Lyman Beecher had a 18\'x30\' Gabled addition added to the south end With a attic palladium window, While the main house retained its original hip roof until around 1840. The main house roof was re framed with hewed rafters to a full gable making the structure 30\'x50\'. Every single thing has been saved including the original stenciled plaster walls, They are crated in plywood and have been removed whole, nothing cut. The dirt and fragments between the walls have even been saved for possible forensic analysis. There are many original features that were present and saved at the time of dismantling in 1997. Including Original surface floors, stair cases, wood paneling, original stenciled plaster walls, window frames including the palladium, wood clapboards, many hand made and some early machine made nails. The building is stored in Two semi. trailers and one container, There have been many television and news stories written about this over the years some are in accurate and have misinformation. I am the hired contractor that disassembled this house with a select crew in 1997, Virgil Rollins. My work has been featured in many magazines and television shows over the past 30 years.
