In 1796, The Dorset Inn welcomed its first guests – travelers en route to the major markets in Boston and Albany. The Inn, first opened in 1796, is one of the village’s landmarks. Originally the Washington Hotel, the building has tall columns modelled after George Washington’s Mt. Vernon home. The property has had around 30 proprietors during its two centuries and, along the way, in 1904, its name was changed to Dorset Inn.
Frank Louis Forward, Jr., was a self-employed photographer, and president and owner of Forward's Color Productions, Inc. out of Manchester, Vermont. Forward’s Color Productions, Inc., for the purpose of printing postcards during the late 1950s through the early 1970s.
