D. B. LEWIS GROTON, MASS.

SKEW RABBET PLANE

Beech, 9 ½” long x ¾” wide. Very rare, only about 3 or 4 planes known. Stamped D. B. LEWIS. GROTON, MS (Mass.). One plane known dated 1839. (See AWP, 4th ed., page 251.) Unfortunately this plane has problems. Through mortises were made to accommodate a slide-arm plow plane fence and two ⅜” diameter holes on top for locking thumbscrews. It was “shaved” on top edges near toe. There are two ⅛” diameter holes through sides. Very minor chipping of wedge finial and depth stop is missing.
