This is a pre-Civil War stereoview photograph published by E& HT Anthony stereoview. It is “No.170. Scenes in Cuba. Interior of a Spanish Kitchen.” This series of Cuba stereoviews published byAnthony were taken by George Barnard in 1860.This image was photographed on one of the plantations that Barnardvisited. Besides the three black chefsthere is a white man standing at the door in the rear. Taking this photo would have been a difficultachievement at the time due to the low lighting conditions in the kitchen andthe exposure times necessary for a good picture. This is a rare stereoview of slaves on aplantation in Cuba in 1860.
