Civil War PLAYING CARDS / C. 1860\'s / From Easton, PA / Only known deck. :
$250000.00
***ULTIMATE CIVIL WAR / MILITERIA / CARD COLLECTABLE***
***\"HOLY GRAIL\" LEVEL ITEM***
***This deck came from Easton, PA which hada Civil War military hospital and military staging-area. (Last Photo involves documentation of origin on Flat Ratebox, my purchase receipt dated 2013 and I have an e-mail from seller which states deckbought by him inEaston area from anAntique Shop. All this documentary proof will be provided to buyer.) DECK IS COPYRIGHTED AS \"GUNSLINGER DECK\" by seller so may NOT BE REPRODUCED IN ANY FORM. I will provide written and signed SALE OF ALL COPYRIGHTS to buyer. Your lawyer will tell you that\'s all you need to own the Copyrights.
***Ace-of-Spades is on Page 69 of Hochman and is AD3, one of Dougherty\'s earlier Aces used during the Civil War Era. THIS BACK DESIGN IS UNKNOWN ANYWHERE UNTIL THIS LISTING and the seller to me in 2013.THIS IS THEFIRSTKNOW DECK OF THE CIVIL WAR ERAWITH THIS BACK DESIGN.
***Provenance for a deck from the EastonPA area includes Military staging-area, and Military Civil War Hospital. IMO, the fact that Easton PA had many brothels during this Erameans that a deck like this in POKER SIZE (3.5\" X 2.5\") was probably used in a Poker Bar and/or Brothel. It certainly IS NOT a ladies Bridge Deck! NOTE: Deck was carefully examined and there are NO OBSERVABLE CHEATER MARKINGS OR CRIMPS. These were probably used in HONEST card games.
***CONDITION: All 52 cards (NO Jokers were issued with cards of this
Era). Original Box and/or wrapping are NOT AVAILABLE. Cards appear USED A LOT IN PLAY and still have a \"card smell\" to them, albeit a \"musty\" card smell. Since I owned them they\'ve been safely stored in card collectors archival Box which will be provided. CONDITION RATING for ANTIQUE of this age is: VERY GOOD. One card (Photos 8 & 9), the 7-of-Clubs has aslight crease which would NOTbe detectable in play by many players. Therefore I consider the deck asPOSSIBLY playable....NOT THAT I\'D ADVISE DOING SO WITH THIS DECK. NO OTHER CARDS ARE MARKED, CREASED, TORN OR OTHERWISE DAMAGED. Card stock is of solid, robust quality and appears manufactured for lots of \"play time.\"
***I consider this deck an Americana \"Holy Grail\" item. NO OTHER IS LIKELY TO EVER BE DISCOVERED INTACK. It is from an Historic area since Easton, PA was also one of 3 places for the original reading of the Declaration of Independence as well as a key Civil War area. THIS DECK IS, IMO, MUSEUM QUALITY. IT IS EXPENSIVE and saturated with HISTORICAL AMERICANA. If you think the price is too high...this page is probably not for you.
***Deck may be examined at a neutral location if desired by special arrangement (-mail mefor details).
***This is an EXTREMELY RARE or ONE-OF-A-KIND ITEM. Consequently, it is priced at HIGH-RETAIL. If you really want this deck, and have a different \"ball-park\" in mind.... mail me and Imight re-list this at different pricing.
12-16-2018 SUN SPECIAL NOTE TO BUYERS OF \"ALLEGED\" CIVIL WAR ERA CARDS. Cards of this Era are extremely difficult to DATE ACCURATELY. I have been EXTREMELY CAREFUL in doing this with this deck and am over 95% certain of Civil War Deck identification.
HOWEVER, a deck recently sold for $399 on I would not have paid $50 for. WHY? 1> It had TORN pieces off the K-Hearts and J-Clubs which are SERIOUS CONDITION FAULTS. 2> There is NO PROVENANCE for the deck other than \"private collection\" which MEANS NOTHING. 3> There is no mention that the Excelsior-Ace used was used wellAFTER actual Civil War. 4> The unfortunate buyerapparently did not notice the BACK DESIGN IS BORDERED. Bordered designs like this are almost CERTAINLY POST CIVIL WAR ERA. My deck offered is UNBORDERED and undoubtedly OLDER.
I believe the deck that sold for$399 is NOT \"Civil War\" and Icertainly advise buyers NOT to buy ANY Civil War items withoutPROVENANCE and without TORN CARDS.
