* Thomas M. NicholWas a leader of the United StatesGreenback “Hard Money” Party Movement of 1875-1884 in Wisconsin. He also organized the “Honest Money League”in favor of the resumption of Gold and Silver specie payments in exchange forthe redemption of federal currency notes. Nichols served as Commissioner ofIndian Affairs, appointed by President Garfield, and was a close friend of JohnSherman (Ohio Senator, Secretary of the Treasury, Secretary of State, andauthor of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act).
