CHICAGO History Rare George Weavers Mug Manager The Strafford HOTEL Chicago 1904: $1,195
You are offerding on an Antique, Rare, One of a Kind, History of Chicago, Illinios, Circa 1904, Pottery, Personally Marked, Large Stein / Tankard/ Mug Owned by the Former General Manager / President "George B. Weaver" of "The Stratford" Hotel 1983-1922. The Strafford was once located at the intersection of southwest corner of Michigan and Jackson, built by W.W. Boyington in 1872, named the Leland Hotel from 1872- 1983, and demolished to build the Straus Building in 1922. I found a trail of information about Mr. Weaver in the November 1st, 1904 Chicago Daily Tribune, Chicago History Site. Information included a court date with the hotel owner over an employment negotiation, and a photo of Mr. Weaver slumped in a chair in court. I have found no other memorabilia out there on Chicago Hotels at the Turn of the Century, nevermind one with such provenance. This mug is in excellent condition, with no damage, and little to no wear. Interior of the tankard is bright white, looks like it was never used. You can see Mr. Weaver's name on the side of the mug under the hotels logo. This monk's image was also used on a Limoges tankard in different coloring, most likely originally from a German factory. This stein measures 5 1/2" tall by 6" across. No marks on the stein bottom. One dot on the back bottom photo, is off the lens/reflection, there is NO white spot on the stein. Selling as found.
