Colonel Samuel Colt inventor of the revolving firearms was a notable innovator and promoter. In 1854 Colt sponsored the ascent of Silas Brooks hydrogen balloon at South Meadows, Hartford Connecticut. Colt\'s Compliments To Yourself and ladies inviting you to seats of Embankment In The South Meadow, ASCENSION OF THE BALLOONS AND EXHIBITION OF THE FRIEWORKS, ON JULY 4TH, 1854. Please show this card to the officer at the gate\".Silas Markham Brooks of Plymouth Connecticut was a young balloonist who in 1854 convinced Sam Colt to invest in a public demonstration of balloon ascent at Colt\'s South Meadows. The July 4, 1854 ascent was hugely successful and Brook\'s wicker basket used in the ascents resides at the New England Air Museum at Windsor Locks, Connecticut.This card came from the estate of Ebenezer Flowers, a a prominent Hartford merchant and Mayor of the city.in the 1850s. Approx 3.5 x 2.25\" on heavy stock ivory paper. Minor wear at edges and age stains on the reverse of the card, Overall VG. I have had this card in my collection since the early 1980s and have never seen another.
