Army Air Corps D-12 Aircraft Magnetic Compass Bendix:
Bendix Army Air Corps D-12 Aircraft Navigators Top Reading Magnetic Compass. Standard desk mounted compass used in bombers and transports of the era. The AC (Air Corps) 41- beginning serial number makes this a pre-war or very early WWII unit. The data plate is clear and states: A.C.U.S. (Air Corps of the U.S.) Type D-12, ORDER NO. AC 20662, PART NUMBER 1801-1-A, SPEC NO. 94-27825, SERIAL NUMBER 41-6080. Includes both of the original adjusting knobs. Ad photos make the compass appear to be gray, but it is standard WWII military flat black in color. The deviation adjusting hardware on the bottom appears to be intact, but has not been tested. The compass fluid is long gone, suggesting that the gaskets are probably dried and no longer intact. The markings on the swinging card lubber line are faded as are the white wires on the top reading glass. Remarkable condition for a war time artifact that is likely almost 80 years old. No returns, sold “as is where is”, no sales outside the US and no sales to non-US citizens. Shipping $24
