Antique Jackson Stacey & Smith Quill Knife Sheffield MOP RARE Unique 1840’s.
Made in Sheffield England
2-1/8 inches closed
Carbon Steel Blade
Mother of Pearl Handles
I have spent hours researching this little knife. The only real solid info I found was on a Antique Straight Razor Forum. Someone went to the library in Sheffield and looked them up under the manufacturers listed and the only year the “ Jackson Stacey & Smith “ name was listed was 1845. Listed as manufacturers of spring knives. All three men had different companies the previous and past years from 1845 , but the names stamped on the tang of this knife were only registered for one year. That’s the best I could do on information.
Blade has wear from sharpening and use. Blade has half stop, does not snap when opening, but snaps when closing. Blade is tight, no wiggle. Handles have some wear along the liners. No chips or cracks.
The very unique feature is the “cap” on the one end of knife. It appears to be threaded on the inside and I believe something screwed into it. I have no idea what it would of been. If you know, please let me know! Very neat and you just don’t see these kind of things everyday. I will entertain reasonable offers. Please view all the pictures and ask any questions before purchasing.
