'Wireless?' 'Television?' in 1940?Absolutely! World War 2 delayed the introductionof Television in America until 1946 when Dad boughtan RCA Console with a ten inch screen.
Philco was at the forefront of techology back then. In 1938 they offered the Mystery Box that wirelesslychanged stations on a Philco 39 Floor Model which was amazing and fun to use. But this Philco 40-115wirelessly picking up audiooff of a Philco television set? Had to be an introduction that had to wait. I don't knowhow this radio was to perform like that and could not find anything in my research. This label makes this avery unique radio to own. That's my sale's pitch!
...For this wonderful lookin'1940 Philco Table Radio, Model 40-115. Ron Ramirez's extensive catalog directory, "PHILCO RADIO 1928-1942 with Rarity Scale", lists this model as having a rarity scale of "B" - which indicates "somewhat difficult to find". This is a1993 rating. I've not seen many of these in my 50 years of collecting. The cabinet looks like it has its original finish, as you can determine from the photos. The veneer is excellent and inlaid stripes are beautiful. Structurally, then cabinet is very strong. The radio has NOT been tested. It was for display and I didn't bother with three missing Philco tubes and a hole in the speaker. The Grille was a hideous piece of Blue flannel. which I corrected with new grille cloth. I had everything apart and cleaned the cabinet and the chassis. The wiring has been worked some.with new caps as you can tell from the photo. The speaker has to be replace. Its rarity and the immaculate cabinet justifies the opening offer.
Its rarity and the immaculate cabinet justifies the opening offer of $79.50. We use extra heavy cartons rather than double box complete the packing with plenty of bubble-pack and foam. There is a $5.00 handling charge to help withthen shipping materials toassure its save trip to your home.
A electrically restored Philco 40-115 sold this past summer "on line" for $399.
