Manuscript letter from the Earl of Shaftsbury. Dated May 10, 1884 on letterhead from 24 Grosvernor Square W. In the letter he briefly addresses various subjects and mentions his concern about cock fighting,prize fighting and bull baiting, as it concerns the Birmingham Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Anthony Ashley Cooper, seventh Earl of Shaftsbury, 1801-1850, was an English philanthropist and politician. He was one of the main founders of Christian Zionims. He became a Tory member of Parliament in 1826 and was a leader in the movement for factory reform.Single sheet, folds darkened, else good.
