peremptorily cite or cause to be cited the creditors of Samuel Bowers late of Calcutta deceased, to refuse or claim Letter of Administration in Goods Chattels and Effects left behind by Samuel Bowers late of Calcutta deceased or to show good reason why the Administration of the said Goods &c will not be granted to such person or persons who shall be thought proper by the Supreme Court under the pain and contempt of Law or to Mr. Johnson Proctor for John Shore constituted attorney of Richard Bowers uncle of the said Samuel Bowers late of Calcutta deceased. Sir Elijah Impey(13 June 1732 – 1 October 1809) was, the first Chief Justiceof the Supreme Court of Judicature at Fort William in Bengal, Chief Justice of the Sadar Dewanny Adawlutand MP for New Romney. Educated at Westminster Schoolwith Warren Hastings, who was his intimate friend throughout life, he proceeded to Trinity College, Cambridgein 1752, graduating in 1756 as the second Chancellor's classical medallist. Having been called to the bar in 1756, in 1773 he was appointed the first chief justice of the supreme court at Calcutta, and in 1775 presided at the trial and hanging of Maharajah Nandacoomar. Elizah Impey was impeached along with Warren Hastings, for their conduct of the execution of Maharajah Nandacoomar by hanging till death, which has been termed by Macaulay as Judicial Murder. He was accused by Macaulayin the House of Commonsof conspiring with Hastings to commit a judicial murder by having unjustly hanged Nandacoomar. In 1790 Impey was returned to Parliament as the member forNew Romney Constituencyand spent the next seven years as an MP before retiring to Newick Park near Brighton. He died there in 1809 and was buried in the family vault in Hammersmith, London.
