1773 New York City Postmaster's bill to the office at Newport RI for letter rate:
Records for the Manhattan post office prior to 1775 are rather slim. This is a post master's bill for 1773, signed by John Laurance. One of the entries is for 64 dwt, or pennyweight, which indicates a very heavy letter mailed to Newport, RI, prior to the Revolutionary War.
