Doing Business
In Vermont

Vermont has a relatively small population, but we're enthusiastic and hardworking, and we buy services and products just like anyone else. It's a great place to do business. Take our word for it: You do want to be here.

The basic rules are these:

1. Regardless where you are located, if you want to do business in Vermont (except as an individual using your own name), you must register your Trade Name (Corporation, LLC, whatever) with the Office of Secretary of State.

2. Regardless where you are located, you must have a physical address in Vermont. A Post Office Box is not a physical address; it has to be a real street address at which legal documents can be received (for all intents and purposes, if you are sued and the Sheriff drops by to serve process).

3. If you are outside of Vermont (different state, different country, the effect is the same) you must have a Registered Agent at the address mentioned in Item 2 to receive the papers the Sheriff would like you to have.

Long story short: You don't need a plant here or even a staffed office. All you need is a street address, and an individual must be identified as your Registered Agent.

That's where we come in.

Whether you're elsewhere in the US, in Canada, Mexico or anywhere else, we can act as your Registered Agent. We'll receive mail and other documents for you and forward them in a timely manner (emailing them to you as a PDF seems to work well).

Compared to the cost of actually opening an office here, the fee is minimal.
